A Sound Trip Around the World
This time, we started with traditional Ethiopian music played by Dereb The Ambassador, led by Tony Buchen, a singer from Ethiopia in East Africa who is now based in Australia and also a player of the rare one-stringed fiddle called masenqo. From there, we moved west across the African continent to a remix by the British-Indian artist Four Tet of a track by Mali's Tinariwen, followed by new releases from Germany's The Brandt Brauer Frick and Los Angeles blue-eyed soul singer Mayer Hawthorne, resulting in an even more eclectic selection than usual.

A Masterpiece That Nicole Kidman Fell in Love With, Based on a Pulitzer Prize-Winning Novel
In the topics section, we introduced the film "Rabbit Hole," which actress Nicole Kidman produced and starred in for the first time. Unlike many recent American films, it lacks flashy plot developments or directing, but conversely, as it progresses quietly, the emotional "ups and downs" of each character can be deeply felt. It felt perfectly suited for release at this time of year. A few days after watching the film, I drove north with my family for a few hours to see the trees in the mountains beginning to turn autumnal colors. It's a wonderful film that leaves you with a warm feeling, like a campfire, after watching it. Please see it in theaters.
Story
Becca (Nicole Kidman) and Howie (Aaron Eckhart) Corbett, who live in a quiet suburban neighborhood, seem to have everything. Their ordinary lives were shattered eight months ago. Their beloved only son, Danny, died suddenly in an accident at the age of four. Since then, the couple has been consumed by an unfillable void. While Howie tries to move forward, cherishing memories of Danny, Becca is tormented by every aspect of her late son's image. Sharing the same pain, the couple's relationship begins to fray.
One day, Becca spots a boy (Miles Teller) from her car, follows him into the library, and borrows a science book he returned, titled "Parallel Worlds." This boy was the high school student who was driving the car that hit Danny when he ran into the road eight months prior. After an awkward encounter initiated by the boy, who was skipping school, the two find a strange sense of peace, and talking in the park becomes their daily routine.
Meanwhile, Howie finds himself growing closer to Gabby (Sandra Oh), a friendly woman he met in therapy, as if seeking solace. The couple's bond, which frays time and again, will it be able to mend? Can Becca and Howie walk together again?
"Rabbit Hole"
Opening November 5th at TOHO Cinemas Chanter, Human Trust Cinema Shibuya, and other theaters nationwide.

The Buzz Band "The Stepkids" Are Coming to Japan Soon!
Stones Throw, a label that consistently releases authentic street music representing Los Angeles, is holding its second event. Following the J-Rocc event in April, this event will feature Mayer Hawthorne, who was introduced this time.
This time, the main act will be the talented band The Stepkids, who recently made their album debut after gaining attention with their track "La La," reminiscent of psychedelic soul from the late 1960s to early 70s like Rotary Connection. The event will also feature label founder Peanut Butter Wolf, and domestic artists active mainly in the club scene such as Rootsoul, Muro, and grooveman spot. It will be a night that appeals to a wide range of people, not just early adopters, but also soul, funk, and hip-hop fans.

Live Jazz 3: This Time Held in Shibuya
Live Jazz, an innovative event that I, Toshio Matsuura, organize with Shuya Okino of Kyoto Jazz Massive, where all performers refrain from using electronic music. The third installment will be held at the newly opened "SOUND MUSEUM VISION" in Shibuya, which boasts the best sound quality for live music in Japan.
This time, the venue expands to three floors, featuring an even more luxurious lineup. In addition to six DJs on the main floor, talented young musicians will gather for this night, performing as The Young Bloods, playing jazz masterpieces selected by DJs worldwide, including Gilles Peterson and Jazzanova. Furthermore, the groovy sub-floor will feature DJs and dancers from Jazzy Sport, and the lounge will present a deep, dark world curated by the used record store "universounds" from Koenji. It's a night where you can enjoy diverse live music from all eras and regions at once. Live Jazz is attracting attention from beginners, jazz fans, and even international visitors. Please come and join us.
