Diary-T 139 A Little Something Extra
PIRATE RADIO's broadcast data for next week has arrived.
The DJ is Yasuyuki Takagi.
His selections, backed by experience, offer a unique flavor.
He immerses us, track after track, with sheer delight.
His commitment to the craft is undeniable, even as you groove to the beat.
Anyone can select music, in a sense. But that's usually music for oneself. To curate for an audience requires skill, experience, and a unique sensibility. If the music sounds the same regardless of who's playing, then there's no point in selecting it. It goes without saying that a unique sensibility is crucial, and this applies to any field. That's right. He, Yasuyuki Takagi,
was already spinning records as a high school student, long before 'DJ' even had meaning. I believe it was at Picasso in Nishi-Azabu, or perhaps before that... Though we've never spoken intimately then or now, the thought of a high schooler DJing struck me as a sign of the times changing rapidly, a curious sensation. Even as I speak of him now, we remain unacquainted, yet I was delighted to reconnect after so long at the opening of Neighbor and confirm his selections. Just as his smile that day suggested, his choices are superb. As long as one is alive, the act of selecting music becomes more interesting. Or rather, it's the essence of life itself to be moved by the selections of someone living vibrantly. That's likely what it means to possess charisma, in work or in love. Well then.
Ah, yes, he's also a popular stylist and a renowned photographer. Listening to Takagi-kun's selections carefully for the first time like this, I realized it's no wonder he's so successful as a stylist and photographer today. The answer lies in these urban, sophisticated, and captivating musical choices. It's cool.
But somehow, it makes me feel nostalgic... is it just me?
