Lately, I've been increasingly feeling that the act of selecting music might be akin to the Way of Tea.
How dare you speak such nonsense without knowing what the Way of Tea is!
I imagine I might be scolded, but ever since I was captivated by Kenichi Yamamoto's "Ask Rikyu,"
whenever I flip through books related to the tea ceremony, I find myself murmuring that it really does feel that way.
In other words, the act of selecting music has no end, and there is no ultimate state to reach.
This notion arises within me, unbidden. When I finish a selection and listen back, I blush at its crudeness, sighing at my own foolishness. Yet, undeterred, I repeat the process, believing I can do better.
Still, there comes a point where one must overcome that embarrassment, put down the pen, and accept one's signature... And so, tonight too, I will find myself blushing as I listen to my selections and tweet about them. It's truly embarrassing, but the joy of listening to the music chosen on the radio alongside fellow music lovers is a unique pleasure I can't give up. It's irresistible. This is the story of the world of track selection.
