We explore fresh music from around the globe and topics to stimulate intellectual curiosity. Here, we revisit the latest broadcast. This week, we focus on Omar, the British soul singer with a mellow voice, from the selections featured on the show.

Awarded an MBE last year!
In the early 1990s, the music movement "Acid Jazz" swept the globe. Omar, the UK soul singer, was one of the leading artists of the early "Talkin' Loud" label, helmed by DJ Gilles Peterson, which spearheaded the scene.
His debut album, "There's Nothing Like This," released in 1990 on an independent label run by his father, saw its title track chart in the UK. It was re-released by Talkin' Loud the following year and became a major hit worldwide, including in Japan.
He also appeared as a guest on a late-night music TV show I hosted back then, generating significant buzz with his mellow voice and humorous personality.

To date, he has released six albums and performed globally. Last year, he was awarded an MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire), one of the honors of the British Empire. Recently, he has been collaborating with dance music DJs and producers on dance-oriented works, remaining active and widely recognized by new generations.
A new single featuring his own cover of a song, along with new material, will be released soon. Perhaps an album will follow. The anticipation is building.

Two Events to Enjoy During Golden Week
First, the "Zushi Beach Film Festival," an outdoor film festival with the concept "Play with the Earth," showcasing excellent films from Japan and abroad on the beach. Now in its fourth year, the festival will feature film screenings alongside talk shows and live performances by filmmakers, musicians, and DJs over ten days.
"SUNDAY JAM," a pancake shop (project) that only opens on Sundays, has a devoted following not only from Zushi but from all over Japan. This year, they will host "GOLDEN JAM" for two days, a collaboration of music and pancakes, following last year's event. I, Matsuura, will be participating as a DJ on the first day, May 1st. Since my first visit last summer, I've become a fan of their pancakes, visiting often and even introducing them on this program (article herehere).
This time, I plan to select music that will make your heart dance, inspired by the real-time pancake making happening alongside a special kitchen setup. It's a session that will surely engage all your senses. Please join us.
And second, the "Heineken Star Lounge," a pop-up beer lounge in Harajuku, will host "Green Room Session," featuring a special one-night appearance by TOKYO MOON Lounge.
Together with TR (:SYNTHESIZE) from the popular party "TIMEWARP," we will curate music that makes the heart dance, with the theme of adult "sparkle." We hope to see you there.
