Opening with Sublime Vocal Harmonies

Last time, we featured the music of Minas Gerais, Brazil—a region known for its unique and beautiful musical style. This week, as our opening number, we presented "Luz Da Terra" (Light of the Earth) from the second album by the 26-year-old multi-instrumentalist and singer-songwriter, Antonio Loureiro, a track distinguished by its exquisite male and female vocal harmonies.



Next, we turned to New York-born jazz pianist Steve Kuhn, following his beloved 1970s classic, "The Meaning Of Love," with "Lost My Love." This latter piece, arranged by pianist Kenny Cox, features a Rhodes piano and strings that evoke a poignant beauty. Strata Records, a legendary independent label from Detroit, released only a handful of works in the mid-70s before disappearing. This autumn, Amir Abdulla, one of the duo Con & Amir—known as dedicated diggers in New York—is launching a new label, 180 Proof, which will sequentially release Strata Records' previously unreleased material, alongside their existing catalog. Let's anticipate what's to come.




Among the upcoming releases we're excited about is "Make It Good," a disco-rock track from the new work by London artist The White Lamp, whose debut single this spring garnered significant attention. Also from the UK, we have Stubborn Heart, debuting on Björk's label, One Little Indian. Their work features producer and keyboardist Mark de Clive-Lowe, who previously worked in Tokyo, alongside two legends: UK neo-soul artist Omar and percussionist Sheila E. This week, as always, we presented a lineup of unmissable new tunes.
