A Space for Experimenting with New Work and Lifestyles

"Yama no Ie" was born from the concept of sharing multiple bases, including a base in the city for work and a rural life where one can fully enjoy local natural resources, and networking. The land of Tsumari-Matsudai, also known as a "creative satoyama," was chosen as the experimental ground for this new work and lifestyle, which allows for multiple bases by "sharing" and "jointly using" living spaces and workplaces, rather than the traditional "exclusive" ownership.



"Yama no Ie" is a house comprising a 22-seat cafe and a 9-bed dormitory. The cafe offers a menu of creatively arranged dishes using the rich bounty of this snowy region, such as Uonuma Koshihikari rice, delicious sake, local Yukishita carrots, wild vegetables, and Tsumari pork. It can also be used as a multi-purpose space for workshops and music events.




The dormitory features nine bunk beds across two rooms in a simple space renovated by local carpenters and young interns working together. While there are shared toilets and showers, a 10-minute ride on the free shuttle bus leads to an open-air bath with a spectacular view of the sea of clouds.


Furthermore, "Yama no Ie Market," offering unique local delicacies such as rare handmade doburoku (cloudy sake) and jams made from wild fruits from fallow land, as well as "essentials" like accommodation amenities, daily necessities, books, and music software for travelers and immigrants, is scheduled to open soon.
