18 Days Packed with Performances by World-Class Dancers and Japanese Premieres

Contemporary dance, which breathes within society—encompassing culture, history, education, politics, and economics—can be said to express the modern era. This festival, the fifth of its kind since its inception in 2002, is held once again this year.

This year, over 20 dancers and companies from 10 countries, including Brazil, participating for the first time, along with Belgium, France, Indonesia, Israel, and Japan, will take part. A diverse program of dance will captivate audiences from both Japan and abroad.

World-renowned choreographer Yasmeen Godder will participate not only as a choreographer but also as a dancer. She will present her work in Japan for the first time in six years, and nearly all programs will be Japanese premieres. Furthermore, there will be homecoming performances by Japanese dancers active overseas, and the world premiere of 'SHIROKURO' by Tomoko Mukaiyama, Nicole Beutler, and Jean-Cédric Barbe, making for a truly unmissable event.

In addition, numerous related events will be held, including dance performances in outdoor spaces and at the Spiral entrance, a symposium titled 'Why Do People Dance?', and workshops led by visiting artists.
