Toshio Matsuura | From TOKYO MOON, Aired May 6

Organic Grooves to Cap Off Your Long Vacation

On a Sunday night, time spent leisurely with quality music is a moment of bliss for adults. DJ Toshio Matsuura's radio program "TOKYO MOON" enriches such moments. Every Sunday, he broadcasts carefully selected wonderful music and intellectually stimulating topics for adults on Inter FM 76.1MHz from 7 PM. Here, we look back at the program that just aired. This week, we delivered pleasant music fitting for the final night of Golden Week, and also introduced the 60th-anniversary event of the Institut Français du Japon.

A Musical Prelude to the Verdant Season

This week, in contrast to the previous one, we focused on pleasant, early-summer-evoking Latin-tinged funk and world music. The opening featured Bev Lee Harling, who debuted with her album from the London-based good music label "Wah Wah 45s." We then kicked off with Belgian artist Viktor Lazlo, whose song was a big hit in Japan used for a TV commercial in 1986, and a selection of new and old female singers with distinctive husky voices. With the German Hidden Jazz Quartett, Australia's The Bamboos, and the UK's Anthony Joseph, we colored the last night of Golden Week with pleasant tunes from these three bands.

Bev Lee Harling "Barefoot In Your Kitchen"

Viktor Lazlo "She"

Hidden Jazz Quartett "High Heels"

Anthony Joseph & The Spasm Band "Started Off As A Dancer"

Enjoy France in Japan!

The Institut Français du Japon, an official institution of the French government, is aptly called "France in Japan." This space, comprising a French language school, a French cultural center, and an information hub, celebrates its 60th anniversary this year and will host a commemorative event from May 9th to 13th.

Throughout the event, various activities are planned, including performances, live music, installations, film screenings, and even a magic show. You can also experience French classic films and art, enjoy free trial French language classes, and savor French cuisine. I will be DJing at La Brasserie within the institute on the 12th. With many events suitable for the whole family, please do visit Iidabashi.
