Stimulating Experimental Music to Match the Cherry Blossoms

Sunday evenings, a personal time flowing leisurely with sophisticated music, are a moment of bliss for adults. This time is further enriched by the radio program "TOKYO MOON" by DJ Toshio Matsuura. He broadcasts a selection of wonderful music from around the world and intellectually stimulating topics for adults every Sunday from 7 PM on Inter FM 76.1MHz. Here, we look back at the program broadcast each week. This week, we presented an eclectic selection inspired by the spring cityscape adorned with cherry blossoms.

A Heart-Pounding Soundscape Inspired by a Spring Cityscape

On March 31st, Tokyo finally announced the cherry blossoms had bloomed. As it was later than usual this year, the arrival of spring feels even more exciting than ever. To begin this episode, we imagined a city in bloom with cherry blossoms and introduced two tracks: a mystical waltz from Jazzman Records in London, UK, and a number full of oriental mood. In the middle section, we moved from the laid-back Jamaican soul of Jamaican rocksteady & reggae singer Devon Russell to a hip-hop project by Geoff Barrow of Portishead, a representative artist from Bristol, UK. The latter half featured remixes by the experimental trios Battles and Cro-Magnon, who transcend genres and are active in Japan and the US, delivering an eclectic selection unique to TOKYO MOON.
