Diary-T 101: The Tea Room
"Ask Rikyu" by Kenichi Yamamoto (Author), PHP Institute (Oct 25, 2008)
I became so enamored with this world that I brazenly asked Kaito Abe to compose music for it.
And, with equal audacity, I requested the great Taeko Onuki to do the narration—a truly selfish endeavor.
Abe's sensibility, Onuki's dignified presence.
Surely, "Ask Rikyu" would have been honored by this.
It was a rather self-serving, egoistic ambition.
However, due to my profound ignorance and flippancy, misreading words, and misunderstanding the world of the tea ceremony, among other things,
I received a scolding from the editor at the publishing house.
Even Ms. Onuki, despite her apparent concern, asking, "Are you alright?"
Perhaps it was thanks to Abe's devoted and apt music, and Ms. Onuki's superb narration, that I barely managed to
overcome the hurdles and conclude the small event.
Ah, that was nearly three years ago now.
But I am absolutely unrepentant and will not give up! Someday, this dignified and beautiful world,
that "Sweet Silence" I bravely tackled (I'm still not giving up on that either)
at that chic OJI Hall in Ginza,
I will surely make it a success! Until then, I can't possibly die!—that's my spirit these days.
The following is my rehearsal. I'm mortified.
