This Summer's Anthems and Funky Tracks from Around the World

A Seasonal Delight
This broadcast opened with cinematic funk-jazz from the US and UK, bridging eras, starting with David Axelrod's 1968 debut and Finn Peters' latest work from London.
The music then moved to a down-tempo track with a grounding bassline and striking vocals from Mitsu The Beats' earthquake charity album "LA loves Japan"—a project close to his heart—before transitioning to the lead single from the first solo album by Dego, a key figure in the broken beat scene and a member of 4Hero.

David Axelrod / Song Of Innocence

Finn Peters / Yellow & Purple

Nick Pride & The Pimptones
/ Waitin So Long - Smoove remix
It was, I believe, a funky and soulful 30 minutes, featuring a new, undeniably anthemic summer track from UK soul veteran Omar and UK garage producer Zed Bias, and concluding with Booker T. Jones, a luminary of Memphis soul.

Booker T. Jones / The Road From Memphis

A Stellar Charity Album Featuring Los Angeles and Japanese Beatmakers
Mitsu The Beats' "Wait So Long," track four, is included on the charity album "LA loves Japan," created in support of the earthquake relief efforts. This is a truly exceptional project, featuring only newly produced tracks by artists from Los Angeles and Japan, released digitally. It will be available in Japan from disque corde and in the US from Alpha Pup Records at the end of June. We ask for your support for this initiative, which allows you to aid disaster-stricken areas through the enjoyment of music.
