As the chill in the air begins to soften and the sunlight grows more pleasant, making outings more enjoyable, the music industry is also kicking off its spring release rush. This time, we're featuring an unusual collaboration between the legendary New York poet Gil Scott-Heron and Jamie xx, a member of the London indie-pop group The xx, known for their original sound. We also highlight the delightful jazz-funk from the "wizard of beats," Britain's Wagon Christ, and the high-speed world-funk from the American West Coast's genius, Shawn Lee, among other exciting new releases.

A Film for Adults to Savor──"The King's Speech"

The father of Queen Elizabeth II, George VI, suffered from a speech impediment, a language disorder characterized by stuttering and difficulty speaking fluently. Following the death of his father, King George V, and the abdication of his elder brother, George reluctantly found himself thrust onto the throne. This is the story of how he gradually overcame his condition through his interactions with Lionel Logue, an Australian speech therapist.

The film masterfully focuses on the relationships between George, his family, and the speech therapist, avoiding excessive plotlines. With minimal music and direction, I was drawn into the movie as if I were there. The brilliant interplay between Colin Firth as George and Geoffrey Rush as the speech therapist suggests a potential double win for Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor at the Academy Awards. Colin, in particular, is nominated for Best Actor for the second consecutive year, following "A Single Man," so expectations are high. The film has also received a leading 12 nominations, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, and Best Supporting Actress, making the awards ceremony on the 28th, according to Japanese time, something to look forward to. With moments of both laughter and tears, this is truly a film for adults to enjoy. I highly recommend seeing it in theaters.
