The Perfect Blend of 80s Art and Bebop

The superb documentary film 'All About Basquiat' is soon to be released. The 1980s, an era of fervent passion for all things creative—art, fashion, music—is brought to life. This film focuses on rare interviews with the genius painter Jean-Michel Basquiat, who blazed through that period, weaving in testimonies from his many friends and acquaintances, including art dealers, curators, and fellow artists, to illuminate his tragically short life and true self over 27 years.



Beyond the content, the music featured in the film is equally remarkable. From the iconic Bebop masterpieces of the 40s and 50s to the post-punk of the late 70s and the rap music of the 80s, this selection, transcending time and genre, will undoubtedly evoke the spirit of that vibrant era. This week, inspired by 'All About Basquiat,' I've curated a mix that also incorporates contemporary tracks. Featuring the trending post-dubstep and songs by a female singer produced by a member of the British group Portishead, I believe it makes for a stimulating 30 minutes.
