Lace Dresses Crafted with Couture Techniques
This is the Fall/Winter 2015-16 Paris Ready-to-Wear collection. Unlike Milanese brands, those showing in Paris often blend couture quality with ready-to-wear reality, offering a compelling form of real fashion.
Valentino presented a collection that was both enchanting and surprising. While flowing maxi skirts, reminiscent of the 70s, appear to be a dominant trend, Valentino has infused them with the artistry of Klimt.
The collection opened with black and white color-blocking, then moved into geometric shapes and stripes expressed through pattern-on-pattern. Sharp cuts create silhouettes with an absence of excess. Flowing knits are paired with skirts. Dresses pieced together from multiple types and colors of lace showcase couture-level craftsmanship.
The shimmer of Lurex and gold leaf evokes Klimt's canvases. A clutch bag with a chain handle adds an elegant touch. The look is grounded by leather ankle boots. We were captivated by the dresses featuring delicate lace patchwork and intricate embroidery on soft furs and leathers.
The Haute Couture collection in January, inspired by Russia, had a sense of grandeur, but the ready-to-wear pieces feel even more modern and accessible.
For the ready-to-wear finale, director Ben Stiller and actor Owen Wilson of the film "Zoolander" appeared in Valentino menswear, surprising the audience and electrifying the room. These are exquisite dresses, rich with couture techniques! This is the collection to watch this season.
