The 35th JOURNAL STANDARD | Styling "N-List" Recommended by a Fashion Advisor
JOURNAL STANDARD
A shop that re-examines the essence of selection.
New classics from "JOURNAL STANDARD Omotesando"
"JOURNAL STANDARD Omotesando" champions the concept of an 'antenna shop for exploring new standards.' It curates not only established brands but also those poised for widespread recognition and enduring popularity from around the globe. This series, 'JOURNAL STANDARD's New Axis,' delivered weekly by OPENERS with its unique perspective, unveils the shop's allure.
This installment focuses on the spatial appeal of JOURNAL STANDARD Omotesando. We present the characteristics of each floor with photographs. During our visit, we learned of the launch of a menswear line from "NLST (Enlist)," a womenswear brand that has achieved an unshakeable popularity at the shop. We also showcase practical styling using the latest arrivals.

A New Standard in Select Shops, Continuously Updating with Trendy Brands
JOURNAL STANDARD Omotesando opened in 2013 as a flagship store under the new directive of "ALL NEW STANDARD." While offering the basic lineup, centered on American casual wear, that JOURNAL STANDARD has cultivated as a select shop, it also pursues an ambitious selection that ventures into unprecedented territory.
Located just off Cat Street, after the zelkova tree-lined avenue. The all-glass exterior allows a glimpse of the latest styles proposed by the shop. Inside, the interior, with its loft-like ambiance infused with an East Coast American aesthetic, unfolds into a space of depth.
The three-floor structure comprises the basement and first floor for men's, and the second floor for women's, offering a wide range of items from apparel to accessories and lifestyle goods. Furthermore, each floor consistently features limited-time shop-in-shops highlighting noteworthy brands, with items that signal seasonal trends and new styles displayed alongside the brand's world.
Heightened Interest with the Launch of the Men's Line
NLST
One of the women's brands drawing significant attention this season at the flagship store, JOURNAL STANDARD Omotesando, is "NLST (Enlist)." The brand debuted as the military line of NY-based denim brand "R13" in the Spring/Summer 2014 season. It offers collections that meticulously explore proportions and silhouettes, finding femininity in menswear-inspired items like camouflage and khaki.
And this season, a men's line has been introduced for NLST. Responding to customer requests for menswear items alongside the women's collection, JOURNAL STANDARD Omotesando has curated it with high expectations for its true value.
We asked Atsushiro Ota, a fashion advisor at the store, to style the newly arrived pieces and share his thoughts on the coordination and the brand.
"The MA-1 has set-in sleeves, and the shorts have a tight, tapered silhouette. While based in military style, the way it incorporates a modern feel through silhouette and detail is fresh. Personally, I'd like to suggest it to men who have gone through classic military styles. This season, we're also recommending layered jacket styles at the shop, so I paired the NLST MA-1 over a tailored jacket."
The MA-1 jacket, a military staple, achieves an elegant look through its fabric texture and modern silhouette. The use of entirely Japanese-made materials and a commitment to quality lend stability to the style. The design, fitting the current trend of mixing casual and mode, will bring a subtle sense of ease to any outfit.
Haruka Kato, the fashion advisor for the women's floor, styled the women's items. "For women, it's already become one of the signature brands of JOURNAL STANDARD Omotesando. Its design is simple yet possesses a strong core, making it a standout piece that can anchor an outfit. Today, I'm wearing all NLST, but it would also look stylish paired with knits or denim jackets."
WOMEN'S

A casual, menswear-inspired piece that reimagines the classic utility shirt with a cropped length. It's perfect for adding an accent when paired with a dress.

A big silhouette t-shirt with a wide neckline and raw-cut sleeves and hem. Made from soft cotton for a comfortable feel.

Cropped sarouel pants made from chino fabric. The soft cotton texture is pleasant, and they are exceptionally comfortable to wear. The color is perfect for the upcoming season.
Even from the actual styling, one can confirm the meticulously calculated silhouettes and attention to detail. With the release of its menswear line following the womenswear, NLST has expanded its worldview. It is poised to become a brand supported by a wide range of people as a new standard proposed by JOURNAL STANDARD Omotesando.
