A Piece That Transforms the Bag into a Canvas
Since its launch in 1994, the Le Pliage® series has been a long-selling product for Longchamp, selling over 32 million units worldwide as a standard design and conveniently sized tote bag for daily use. It is lightweight, can be folded to the size of a notebook, yet possesses sufficient strength to withstand heavy loads.
This bag, inspired by the Parisian lifestyle, is also attractive for its color variations to suit any occasion and its accessible price point. In the past, collaborations have been developed with contemporary artist Tracey Emin, and designers Jeremy Scott and Mary Katrantzou. The designs, which replace the bag's body with a canvas-like material, have garnered attention with each release.
Sarah Morris, the artist collaborating this time, is British. Her work is characterized by colorful, graphical abstract pieces, and she has exhibited in museums worldwide, primarily in Europe.
A total of three bag models will be released. The "Le Pliage® Eclipse" and "Le Pliage® Limited Edition" feature a print of Morris's work "Total Annual Solar Eclipse." The latter is a model made of the finest calfskin, with only 125 units produced worldwide. The "Le Pliage® Palette" features seven of her unique, vibrant colors or a black body.
In a video capturing the production process, Sarah Morris stated, "To reinterpret my work as a bag. I wanted to give it a sense of dynamism, not just a mere reproduction."
To coincide with the release, an advance sales event will be held at Isetan Shinjuku Store in Tokyo on November 26 (Wednesday). The collection will be available from December 3 (Wednesday) at Longchamp directly managed stores, online shops, and other select retailers.
