“Rugged and Cool,” a More American Collection
The 2013/14 Métiers d’Art Collection draws inspiration from the romantic history of the Wild West. It proposes styles that incorporate pre-Cold War Texas and a more refined 19th-century cowboy adapted for contemporary times.
The shoot, which took place in early February at a studio in the 7th arrondissement of Paris, was photographed by Karl Lagerfeld himself. Kristen Stewart, on set, exuded confidence and showed glimpses of playfulness, such as tying a knot in her shirt, as the shoot progressed smoothly in a relaxed atmosphere throughout.
The campaign visuals were shot against a backdrop of a faded American flag and a wooden set expressing the pioneering spirit of Dallas. Kristen Stewart, with braided hair, was seen in a satin dress with gold fringe, a tweed jacket with leather fringe, and a long tulle gown adorned with star embroidery.

Stewart, who has been associated with CHANEL and Karl Lagerfeld since she was 17, commented on the campaign: "This collection had a strong American feel, so it suited me. I really connected with the rugged essence of the collection." She also spoke about Lagerfeld: "He is, as far as I know from my experience, a true artist. The kind of person who does what he feels like doing, loves it, feels it's necessary, and enjoys doing it."
