Layered Styles Remixing 90s Youth Culture

At the Milan show, the men's and women's collections were presented together. The show opened with a look featuring a layered check long dress over a striped cut-and-sew top. The fabric moved with an airy lightness, creating a sporty and dynamic impression. This was followed by a series of fresh looks in transparent aqua colors, focusing on layered items with nuanced color combinations like multi-stripes and small floral prints.

The core style of the men's collection is "techno-grunge," crafted in hard black using high-tech materials. Silhouettes were sharply defined with oversized tops and layered check long shirts. Leather items, a brand forte, were balanced with layered techniques, shining as brightly as in the women's collection.

DIESEL BLACK GOLD proposed a new style, "techno-grunge," for Spring/Summer 2018. Creative Director Andreas Melbostad drew inspiration from the movements born in the early 90s, remixing different youth cultures and reconstructing them with a modern interpretation. With blue as the key color, athletic details and sporty materials were incorporated to complete the urban street style.

“The collection featured many looks that incorporated light, layered styles, centering on DIESEL BLACK GOLD's signature leather pieces. Layering was also light and fresh for spring and summer, such as pairing leather skinny pants with shorts, or a nylon parka over a short-sleeved work jacket. For women, the long-and-lean silhouette was the foundation, with effective layering of flowing, sheer materials.”

“And with 'techno-grunge' as the theme, we created a fashion story inspired by the 1990s film 'Reality Bites,' which depicted the struggles and romances of youth. Grunge fashion emerged from the music movement that originated in Seattle, USA, in the late 80s and early 90s.
