Urban Wardrobes for Men and Women, Interpreting Japanese Elements with a Modern Twist
This season's menswear collection at DIESEL BLACK GOLD is influenced by ninjas and Japanese martial arts. The collection features items that embody both strength and Japanese delicacy.
Double riders jackets and MA-1s evoke the overlapping collars and front closures of kimonos. Other pieces include pullover tops resembling armor and long belts with cords reminiscent of judo gi waist ties, all richly incorporating Japanese elements. The looks are grounded with biker boots paired with cropped pants in a tapered silhouette, creating a tough aesthetic. The collection presents ninja-inspired looks reinterpreted with DIESEL BLACK GOLD's signature urban edge.
The womenswear collection, in contrast, sheds the sweet and romantic mood of previous seasons for a hard, cool impression reminiscent of the 90s. Items emphasizing an I-line silhouette, such as long dresses, cardigans, and coats, are rendered in a subdued color palette of dark tones like black, brown, and khaki. Denim and leather, DIESEL BLACK GOLD's forte, are also incorporated into a diverse range of dresses, including sheath dresses and overall dresses. Accessories like knit gloves, featured in various looks throughout the collection, add a nice accent.
DIESEL BLACK GOLD elevates the ninja inspiration into a realistic wardrobe. Incorporating 90s essences and the brand's iconic details, the collection offers a contemporary take for the season. This feature highlights styling by Tomoki Sukezane, also known as "Editor Daimaou."
“The 2017-18 Autumn/Winter season was themed around ninjas. Additionally, Japanese details like family crests and happi coats worn during times of war or fire were refined into DIESEL BLACK GOLD's signature clean, urban style.
Furthermore, the romantic sweetness prominent in previous seasons was toned down, creating an industrial and urban mood for the womenswear collection. Focusing on long, lean silhouettes, classic styles are reconstructed to propose a new urban feminism.
Amidst a rugged and tough image, the collection also conveys a sense of gentleness and delicacy. For this feature, I imagined a fresh, pure love story, akin to the film 'Melody,' with a touch of rebelliousness, to create a fashion story. I hope it provides inspiration for your autumn and winter styling.”
