Accessories That Create a Relaxed Feel Are a Must
"This season's theme at Ron Herman is 'COFFEE STAND.' We're feeling a mood for looks that are a bit more chic and cool, yet still relaxed, perfectly complementing the image of someone holding a takeout black coffee," says buyer Yukari Negishi, who always masters the art of adding and subtracting elements to create a "polished look." Here, she shares her picks for coats that are easy to try because they're classic, and that bring a relaxing vibe with their effortless feel.
Here, Negishi shares her how-to for incorporating chic yet perfectly balanced elements into your coordination. She guides us through styling techniques to update your look.
—What are the must-have items for this season's coats?
First, accessories that create a relaxed feel. Think knit headbands, clutch bags, and shoes or apparel made of "velour." Velour is highly recommended this season. Although not featured in today's coordination, among the many items, velour sweatpants are my top pick. Wearing sweatpants has become quite common now, but I strongly recommend the elegant, lustrous type as the season approaches and the mood builds.
—What are the styling tips?
A duffle coat, with its uncompromising attention to detail and timeless, basic design, is easy to incorporate into any outfit and a must-have. For a fresh take, choose a clean white color. I recommend elevating a casual look by pairing it with beautiful Manolo Blahnik long boots, keeping in mind the balance of adding and subtracting elements. Limit colors to just the clutch bag to make each item stand out, and add movement with a suede headband or a cashmere knit stole layered between the shirt and coat. This will make your coordination much more stylish.
For a checked coat, I recommend a monochrome coordination using denim. To prevent an all-black outfit from looking too heavy, utilize the unique texture and sheen of the materials. The key is to balance the different materials. Adding accessories like a knit headband and clutch bag creates a subtle sense of ease.
