Embrace an "Offensive" Stance, Like a Warrior Woman
"Black makes a strong comeback this season. We're presenting a range of styles, using black as the main color or as an accent, incorporating classical, street, mannish, and futuristic elements. The theme is 'Women Warrior.' I recommend incorporating an 'offensive' stance, like that of a warrior woman, into your coordination," says Maiko Shibata, Creative Director at RESTIR. She styles a classic tweed coat sportily and a military style with stoic femininity.
Shibata excels at creating looks that are both on-trend and accented. What are her evolved ways of wearing black and her "offensive" coordinations that evoke a strong female image?
—What are the must-have items for this season's coat styling?
A must-have item to add to your wardrobe this season is a turtleneck knit made from delicate yarn. It can be worn under dresses or other knits, matches any item, and adds a trendy feel. Don't miss out! Layer it to peek out from the collar of your coat for a sophisticated, elevated look.
—What are your styling tips?
For the Proenza Schouler tweed coat, I've layered a hooded blouson that coordinates with the tweed's colors. It's visually striking and becomes a focal point of the styling. To avoid a washed-out look, I've paired it with a mini skirt set-up trimmed with black nylon material, creating an active impression.
Victoria Beckham's coat draws inspiration from this season's major trend: military. I've paired a tight black dress with an intentionally oversized coat, creating an image as if borrowing his coat. For footwear, I recommend balancing the look with striking booties.
