Swiss luxury brand Bally launched the Bally Peak Outlook project last year.
This involved a cleanup climb from Everest's base camp to the summit, a dangerous endeavor and a first in history.
An experienced team of climbers, led by environmental activist and mountaineer Dawa Steven Sherpa, successfully summited Everest at 8,848 meters while cleaning the mountain trails. They collected a total of two tons of waste.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, entry to Everest was prohibited this spring, making a second cleanup climb impossible. However, Bally will continue its support for the Himalayan region through a series of activities planned over two years.
They plan to collaborate again with Dawa Steven Sherpa to clean the base camps of the eight 8,000-meter peaks in the Himalayas.
The targeted peaks include Mount Everest (8,848m), Kangchenjunga (8,586m), Lhotse (8,516m), Makalu (8,481m), Cho Oyu (8,188m), Dhaulagiri (8,167m), Manaslu (8,156m), and Annapurna (8,091m).
The Bally Peak Outlook project also plans activities on sister mountains, not just in the Himalayas.
In autumn 2020, in collaboration with Ken Noguchi, a Japanese mountaineer and environmental activist, and the Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park Association, they will conduct a cleanup climb on Mount Fuji, a sacred site in Japan, tackling waste collection in high-altitude areas that are difficult to access.
Then, in 2021, the project will focus on Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, addressing local environmental issues, supporting local rangers, and aiming to establish more sustainable trails leading to the summit.
The ultimate goal is to raise awareness and inspire action. In November 2020, a limited capsule collection will be released to encourage customer participation in Bally's initiatives. All net profits from this collection will be allocated to fund future environmental conservation projects.
