Expressing a Diverse Sensibility Through Leather from Discarded Parts
For its debut season in Spring/Summer 2007, H.KATSUKAWA developed "NIBE LEATHER®," an original leather crafted from parts not typically suitable for tanning, reflecting a commitment to sustainability and diversity.
Finished with natural tanning agents, the leather developed a unique texture.
The new series, "NIBE LEATHER® Industrial Waste," utilizes this leather along with PVC.
The name and the "Industrial Waste" logo featured on the items signify the origin of this leather's creation.
This leather aims to integrate the globally shared goals of the "SDGs" (Sustainable Development Goals) into daily life through leather goods, fostering awareness and action towards a sustainable society.
Furthermore, PVC is used on one side of the NIBE LEATHER®, utilizing offcuts from the production process. By combining these contrasting materials, the distinct characteristics of each are enhanced.
To commemorate the launch of this new series, three colors, including special-order items, will be released at Brift H, operated by world champion shoe polisher Yuya Hasegawa.
The world champion shoe polisher, intimately familiar with the properties of leather, was captivated by the allure and luxury of these materials, leading to the creation of these special-order items.
The design thoughtfully conveys a sustainable ethos through a pop aesthetic, encouraging reflection. The natural aging process inherent to the materials results in leather goods that can be enjoyed and incorporated into daily life.
Moving forward, original items such as ring wallets, sacoches, tote bags, and sneakers will be unveiled at MAN PARIS, held in Paris from January 17, 2020. Keep an eye on these as well.
