The Revolutionary Tool to Make Every Day More Active: NIKE+ FuelBand
NIKE USA has announced the "NIKE+ FuelBand," a device designed to measure and record daily movements, encouraging people to be more active. Activity is measured in a new unit called "NikeFuel," and increased activity yields more NikeFuel.

A Digital Gadget Like the Latest Pedometer!
At the launch event in New York, NIKE CEO Mark Parker stated, "NIKE+ FuelBand demonstrates the potential to connect the real and digital worlds in new and exciting ways. Nike has always inspired athletes. NIKE+ FuelBand will also provide motivation in a simple, fun, and easy-to-understand manner."
Designed for all-day wear with an ergonomic, user-friendly approach, the "NIKE+ FuelBand" uses an accelerometer. Its LED dot matrix display interprets wrist movements to convey different information.—It provides four pieces of information: time, calories, steps, and "NikeFuel."
Unlike calorie measurements based on gender and body type, NikeFuel is consistently added regardless of the user's physique, with the same activity yielding the same points. Users can set daily activity goals or the amount of NikeFuel they wish to earn.
The NIKE+ FuelBand display features 20 LED lights that change from red to green as the user approaches their goal. The FuelBand connects wirelessly to the Nike+ website via its built-in USB or Bluetooth using a free iPhone app, recording daily activity. The app's interface is also designed to encourage users striving for their goals.
Lance Armstrong, seven-time Tour de France winner, who attended the launch, commented, "The great thing about NikeFuel and the FuelBand is that they turn your daily actions into actual numbers throughout the day. This encourages everyone to try harder to increase their score. It's a tool that makes you more active."
Kevin Durant, top scorer for the NBA's Oklahoma City Thunder, said, "NikeFuel acknowledges my efforts in exercise. Everyone can see their daily activity volume like a score chart."
Furthermore, Carmelita Jeter, 2011 World Champion in the women's 100 meters, presented, "Even non-elite athletes can find motivation in NikeFuel. You get praised for being active, and you can compare your activity level with others in different sports."
Pre-orders for the NIKE+ FuelBand have begun in the US at Nikestore.com, with a suggested retail price of $149.
