A New Bag Brand Adhering to Mil-Spec Standards, Offering a Clean Aesthetic
MIS
JOURNAL STANDARD has selected MIS, a military factory brand launched in the Spring/Summer 2015 season. Last year, the brand was introduced to domestic select shops and department stores ahead of its wider release, and due to positive customer response, it continues to be a part of the lineup this season.
The brand's factory is located in the suburbs of Los Angeles, California, and the bags utilize fabrics, parts, webbing, and zippers that comply with American military specifications (MIL-SPEC). The sewing techniques are also designed for extreme conditions, ensuring exceptional durability. However, the designs are intentionally simple and user-friendly, conceived for everyday urban use. This ethos is evident in the brand name's origin and its policy: "Make It Simple.—"Simple can be harder than complex."
The buyer in charge notes, "While many products with Mil-Spec standards tend to have overly detailed designs, MIS retains only the essential functionality, making them suitable for everyday fashion. Furthermore, as the brand name suggests, they are simple and reasonably priced, which is a significant appeal."
This season, JOURNAL STANDARD has commissioned special orders in two exclusive fabrics: ABU (AIRMAN BATTLE UNIFORM) CAMO and FOLAGE GREEN. Both are US Air Force fabrics that meet Mil-Spec standards. Their simplicity complements casual outfits, while their high durability and functionality are noteworthy. The rugged charm, characteristic of MADE IN USA, is also not to be missed.
A Shoe Brand Offering the Individuality and Comfort Women Desire Today
CHIE MIHARA
CHIE MIHARA creates shoes with feminine designs yet relaxed forms, aligning perfectly with JOURNAL STANDARD's style of understated casualness. The shop places great trust in the brand. All shoes are handmade through over 60 processes, ensuring quality craftsmanship. Additionally, the designer's background in studying the structure of orthopedic shoes contributes to their exceptional comfort, a key attraction.

Designer Chie Mihara is a second-generation Japanese Brazilian. She studied fashion design in Fukuoka, Japan, from ages 18 to 22, and after graduating, worked as an assistant designer at JUNKO KOSHINO. Moving to New York, she studied shoe and bag making, then gained expertise in ergonomic shoe design at a medical footwear brand. She later worked as a shoe and bag designer for "Sam & Libby" before moving to Spain and launching her own brand in 2001.
Her collections began in 2002, with the policy of "shoes for women, by women." She aims to create fashionable yet comfortable footwear suitable for diverse situations, catering to mothers with children and active women alike.
Spring and summer items are arriving in abundance, heralding the new season. We encourage you to discover the fresh fashion proposed by JOURNAL STANDARD Omotesando at the store as soon as possible.
