Tomoki Sukezane Orders from John Lobb

The "Chapel" Model is Finally Complete! (Fitting Edition)

This past May, at the "MADE TO ORDER FAIR" held by "JOHN LOBB," fashion director Tomoki Sukezane ordered the "Chapel," John Lobb's double monk strap shoe. His Prince of Wales check suit, also ordered from "TOM FORD," has been completed, and it's finally time for a fitting at the John Lobb Marunouchi store.

I seem to have gotten the length of my trousers wrong—Tomoki Sukezane

"MADE TO ORDER" is a custom order service that builds upon John Lobb's ready-to-wear line (off-the-shelf shoes) to better meet customer requests. Tomoki Sukezane ordered the "Chapel" model during the premium fair period for this year-round custom order service. He made a stylish appearance wearing a Prince of Wales check suit from "TOM FORD," which he picked up in New York.

Tomoki SukezaneThey're ready!

Tomoki Matsuda (John Lobb Japan Representative)We've been expecting you. The museum calf in "Plum" (bordeaux) that you chose has also turned out beautifully. Let's try them on right away.

SukezaneThe hold is good. When you have a fitting this carefully, it's surprising how much the size and width of my left and right feet differ.

MatsudaThere's about a hole's difference in the strap length. Many people who play sports have different sizes for their left and right feet.

SukezaneI've played baseball for a long time, and I've been involved in sports since I was a student, so it might be due to that.

MatsudaHow do they feel when worn?

SukezaneThe comfort and fit are superb, but I think I got the length of my trousers wrong (laughs).

MatsudaPlease stand facing the mirror.

SukezaneAt this length, the shoe straps are hidden. I need to shorten them by about 5cm, enough for the double straps. I want both double straps to be visible. Hmm, a mistake.

Shoe Polishing: It's All About Technique and Materials

MatsudaHow do you handle shoe polishing, Mr. Sukezane?

SukezaneUntil about 10 years ago, I took care of them myself, but recently I've been asking a specialist shop near my office to do it.

MatsudaAnd how are the results from the specialist shop?

SukezaneI think everyone has their own preference for shoe polishing, but I don't particularly like them to be overly shiny. However, the artisans at specialist shops also have their own preferences, so it's hard to say what you want.

MatsudaThat's true. Each shop uses different materials and has its own secrets.

SukezaneHow does John Lobb handle polishing?

MatsudaPolishing on the spot in the store is free. If you want a thorough polish and leave the shoes with us, we charge 2,000 yen.

SukezaneThat's inexpensive.

MatsudaYou mentioned that polishing is a matter of preference, but some shops apply so much wax that the leather can't breathe, and achieving an elegant shine is actually quite difficult.

SukezaneA wet-looking shine is something I can never achieve myself, and shoe polishing is difficult. With John Lobb, I can wear them as they are right out of the box, can't I?

MatsudaYes. You don't need to do anything further. We deliver them in the best possible condition, so even if you think there are some scratches, they are usually on the wax layer and rarely reach the leather itself. If you wear them and bring them back to the store, we will take care of them.

SukezaneSince polishing is all about technique and materials, it's probably best to leave it to the experts.
