Concept: Glazed Paradise
The striking works in the image gallery above are arranged on the second floor of DIESEL DENIM GALLERY AOYAMA. The more you look, the more mysterious they become, like a dreamlike reality that approaches with hyperrealism, blending stillness and motion (or death and life) with a humorous perspective.
Mark Jenkins is an American installation artist who creates sculptures using packing tape. He has garnered attention for his diverse motifs, including men, women, children, babies, giraffes, dogs, and ducks, all crafted from packing tape.
His representative works include a piece depicting a person stuck headfirst in a trash can. Furthermore, a key characteristic is their placement in unique locations, both indoors and outdoors, such as the walls of buildings, cafes, school locker rooms, restrooms, and art galleries, as well as in urban centers and natural settings.
His first exhibition in Japan, themed "Glazed Paradise," also features a making-of video directed by film director Miho Kinomura. Supporting Mr. Jenkins' creative process from the exhibition's inception to completion, the film captures the unique world he creates.
