Carefully Selected California Brands with a Philosophy of Craftsmanship

Standard Clothing Produced in Developing Countries
Apolis

Apolis, founded in California in 2004, is a brand dedicated to social support through industry. JOURNAL STANDARD began selecting their items in 2009, drawn to the brand's philosophy and its contemporary, timeless pieces.

The company's core mission is to create global employment through the concept of global citizenship. To enable consumers to directly contribute to social good, products are planned and produced in collaboration with manufacturers worldwide, thereby increasing local employment opportunities.

Designs are primarily developed in California, offering a lineup of modern, stylish, and approachable items. Their activities span a wide range, including bag production in Bangladesh and Uganda, knitwear in Peru, scarves in India and Ethiopia, and even coffee cultivation in Honduras.

Furthermore, the brand actively pursues comfort and quality while incorporating organic and recycled materials. In recent years, collaborations with renowned brands like Filson have increased their visibility. Although still less common in Japan, Apolis is already a globally recognized brand with numerous stores, particularly in New York.

A soft, comfortable cotton cut-and-sew piece, indigo-dyed. The sweatshirt features an authentic design with ribbed cuffs. The henley neck shirt is accented by contrasting fabric at the button placket. All products bear a red line on the tag, symbolizing the brand.

Versatile chino pants with a straight silhouette. The fabric's rich texture and soft feel, along with the comfortable fit, are also appealing. The natural color palette easily complements a wide range of casual styles. These are ideal, breezy items for the upcoming season, embodying a casual American West Coast aesthetic.

Button-down shirts in stripe and Oxford cotton, characterized by their small collars. The clean silhouette fits the Japanese physique well, and the basic design accommodates various styling options. The meticulous construction, such as the layered fabric on the inner yoke, is also a notable feature.

New Generation Eyewear Inheriting the DNA of Oliver Peoples

GLCO

GLCO began its rollout at the first-floor eyewear corner of JOURNAL STANDARD Omotesando last fall. Though a relatively new brand, launched in 2011, its appeal quickly becomes evident upon learning about the designer's background, the brand's concept, and its high quality and design.

The designer of GLCO, Garret Leight, is the son of Larry Leight, the founder and designer of Oliver Peoples. After building his career under his father's guidance and inheriting his spirit, Garret launched his own brand in Venice, California, in 2011.

While embracing a "California lifestyle" concept, enjoying surfing and relaxing on the beach, the brand draws inspiration from various elements each season to present fresh collections. Simultaneously, it excels in creating timeless, classic designs that transcend trends. The lightweight fit provided by the slim temples is another reason for its popularity. The solid quality born from advanced craftsmanship and realistic price points make it accessible to a wide range of people, regardless of gender or generation.

JOURNAL STANDARD resonates with GLCO's philosophy of pursuing classic design and quality while drawing inspiration from diverse fields such as art, fashion, music, and architecture. They plan to continue actively featuring the brand.
