No need to dress up
The collection draws inspiration from Uri Shulevitz's picture book 'DAWN'. Within a quiet world, nature reflected on the water's surface creates beautiful shadows and gradations. As dawn breaks, mountains and lakes burst into vivid color.—In the story, a grandfather and grandson, to ward off the cold, wrap themselves in blankets and build a bonfire. The clothing they wear to survive is depicted as a natural, everyday element.
For this season, MINOTAUR reinterprets the cable knit patterns of fishermen's sweaters, traditionally worn by Irish fishermen to withstand harsh conditions, using quilting that combines wool and nylon with high-tech cotton batting. Additionally, tartan checks, originating from Scotland, are rendered in a gradient finish using the special "needle punch" technique.
The fabric used for the coats, resembling gabardine wool, is part of a 3-layer series offering excellent water repellency and breathability. MINOTAUR's original fabrics are tough and functional, yet possess a texture akin to natural materials.
The coloring is particularly noteworthy. The vibrant blues and greens, reminiscent of natural hues used in pea coats and wool shirts, are carefully selected by designer Eiichi Izumi and represent the brand's confident identity.
When asked about the highlight of this season's collection, Mr. Izumi stated, "A natural state——the freedom from needing to dress up." In other words, the high level of craftsmanship in each item allows them to seamlessly integrate into the wearer's existing wardrobe.
MINOTAUR continues to offer modern, urban updates to basic styles. This season's items are all not to be missed.
