A Modern Interpretation for the "Objets Nomades" Collection

The Bell Lamp: A Modern Lantern

Design duo Barber Osgerby, currently garnering significant global attention, has expanded their activities since designing the torch for last year's London Olympics. Their latest creation, the Bell Lamp, was unveiled last December alongside Design Miami as part of Louis Vuitton's "Objets Nomades" collection.

The "Bell Lamp," their first collaboration with Louis Vuitton, is a fusion of cutting-edge technology and traditional craftsmanship. Crafted from Murano glass sourced from Venice, each bell-shaped lamp is meticulously handmade by glass artisans. The light source, offering four brightness levels, utilizes the latest LED technology and can be recharged using solar power.

Additionally, a ring-shaped design at the base ensures stability on any surface. A signature Louis Vuitton Nomade leather strap makes it easy to carry, proving particularly convenient for outdoor use.

Founded in 1854 as a luggage brand, Louis Vuitton has a long-standing heritage of creating travel goods. Inspired by this rich history, Barber Osgerby has developed a piece that enhances both design and functionality, integrating artisanal traditions with the latest technological advancements.

Named for its resemblance to a bell, the "Bell Lamp" serves a purpose beyond illumination. "Old bells were used to gather people and foster social interaction," Barber Osgerby explains. "We envision this Bell Lamp being used like a lantern during dinners and parties."

"Objets Nomades" is a collection that Louis Vuitton presents as "portable travel accessories." As a brand that began with luggage, Louis Vuitton expresses its roots through this collection. Collaborating with various designers worldwide, the collection features 16 items related to "travel," including pieces by Barber Osgerby, Atelier Oï, and nendo. Select items are available for order at a limited number of stores globally. In Japan, orders are accepted at the Omotesando store, with currently available items including a hammock and folding stools crafted from leather by Atelier Oï. Lamp production is also planned.
