Luggage with Character, Accompanying the Exploratory Journeys of Creators
The world woven by Gucci's Autumn/Winter collection, rendered in a deep, dramatic color palette reminiscent of Caravaggio's paintings, exudes overflowing artistry, embodying an intellectual luxury style for the rebellious.—The theme is decadence. Cloaked in profound blues and softly burning reds, "Les Fleurs du Mal" blossoms in prints and jacquards. Just as a poet spins a poem from a series of experiences, personal style is created by layering and mixing various styles.
To the Gucci Autumn/Winter 2012-13 Collection
Among the collection's key items are the large pieces of luggage, evoking the endless exploratory journeys of creators. Various types of luggage have appeared, including floral patterned jacquard velvet and travel bags with motifs of old maps.
Particularly striking were the briefcases, characterized by their unique patterns. With a classical design reminiscent of horse-drawn carriage travel and soft shapes, they possess a charming, seasoned appearance, as if their expressions have deepened through long journeys. The leather, with its distinctive pattern that might be mistaken for exotic skin, is in fact lambskin. After being dyed in two colors, the surface is abraded with pumice stone to reveal the base color, creating a unique texture that emphasizes the characteristic grain of lamb. As each piece is handcrafted by artisans, no two pieces of luggage have the same pattern.
The ivory canvas-lined interior is divided into two large compartments, one with a zippered pocket and pen holders, the other with three pockets of varying sizes. The handles are made of horn. With details like an impressive combination lock and matte silver metal parts, the antique-style details evoke numerous travel stories.
In addition to leather bags, another item that commands presence in the collection is the jacquard bag, with its beautiful gradation of soft colors, reminiscent of Monet's paintings. One might wonder what is depicted in this abstract pattern, but the jacquard fabric is actually used inside out, with the original pattern hidden within the bag. It features natural motifs like trees, flowers, and birds, evoking a forest, along with equestrian motifs deeply connected to the brand's roots.
The handles and straps are made of lambskin treated with the same unique process as the leather bag introduced earlier, creating a seasoned, well-used appearance. The shapes include a sleek tote style and a drawstring duffle bag. Both are quite large, capable of packing generously for one or two-night trips.
What drove so many creators, like Baudelaire and Rimbaud, to travel?—As nature vividly colors this coming season, let us embark on a journey to find the answer. With hints left behind in their books, we head to the poetic autumn landscape. Gucci's new luggage invites men on a journey.
