Maya YOSHIDA
Born August 24, 1988. Standing 186cm, he was born in Nagasaki Prefecture. The youngest of three brothers, he grew up with two older siblings. He began playing football at age seven with local club Nanryo FC and joined Nagoya Grampus's U-15 (junior youth) and U-18 (youth) teams before signing a professional contract to become a J.League player. He was selected for the 2008 Beijing Olympics squad and moved to Dutch club VVV-Venlo in 2009. He made his international A-match debut in 2010, was part of the victorious Japanese team at the 2011 AFC Asian Cup in Qatar, and the following year, captained the Olympic team as an over-age player at the London 2012 Games, leading Japan to the semi-finals. He currently plays for Southampton FC in the English Premier League. His nickname is Maya, and his position is center-back.
