A Smartwatch to Create Distance from Information ~ Jin Nonogami

VELDT, a smartwatch manufacturer, is celebrating its third anniversary. "We wanted to create a wearable device that allows people to detach from their smartphones," says Jin Nonogami, the company's CEO, explaining the motivation behind its development.

"I wanted to start a company around 2000, but the technology wasn't there yet. Then smartphones became dominant, and I felt the time was right."
Nonogami previously worked in a field related to the spread of the internet. However, as the internet grew, he began to notice various issues, such as accidents caused by people walking while using smartphones.

"So, when we launched VELDT, we thoroughly embraced the concept of 'reclaiming a life free from constantly looking at screens.' While we are considering releasing products other than watches in the future, we will not waver from this core concept."

The company is also planning to unveil new products at Baselworld, a watch exhibition held in Switzerland, next March.

"While we enjoy the convenience of digital technology, there's quite a lot we lose because of it. We're constantly worried if we've received a new email, for example. We hope VELDT can create a positive cycle where digital technology doesn't steal our time, but rather helps us gain more of it."

Creating Interior Pieces with Character for Daily Life ~ Takahiro Goko

Takahiro Goko runs "Swimsuit Department," a shop dealing in imported miscellaneous goods and wholesale. Many may have encountered his distinctively curated, characterful tableware and objets d'art in magazines.

"While working at United Arrows, I became interested in interior design through magazines and discovered its appeal. I feel that interest in interiors has been growing in Japan over the past four or five years. It's as if furniture and home goods have become more common gift options."

In Japan's often limited living spaces, the current focus on interiors might symbolize a heightened aesthetic sensibility towards lifestyle. Goko's shop also features many unique vintage furniture pieces and goods gathered from around the world. Visitors often seem to be...
...people with a keen eye for interior design.

"Our shop operates by appointment, but sometimes there's no one around. It simply means 'feel free to contact us.' Don't hesitate, even if it feels a bit formal. However, customers who make appointments are indeed very interested in interior design."

The items displayed in Goko's showroom are all warm and comforting. Even those unfamiliar with interior design can surely feel the ambiance. We encourage you to make an appointment and experience his world.
