Combining Masculine Items with Elegant Fabrics
──What was the theme/concept for the 2015-16 Autumn/Winter collection?
I don't set a theme for each season.
──What points did you focus on for this season's lookbook shoot, and what should people pay attention to?
It's the same shooting method we've used for several seasons. I'm pleased with how cohesive the overall result is.
──What are the differences in styling, silhouette, and color compared to last year's Autumn/Winter collection?
Compared to last year, we've further simplified the colors and design composition.
──What is the key look (coordination) for this season?
The key look is the styling shown at the bottom right. This season, I focused on styles that combine masculine items like denim jackets and flight jackets with elegant fabrics like velvet and silk blends, which have a feminine feel.
The Collection is Built Around Italian Flannel Fabric
──What are the key items?
The key item is the flight jacket. As with all our items, I wanted to incorporate design elements even within simplicity, and this item successfully expresses that concept.
──What "materials" did you focus on this season?
It's the flannel fabric from Italy's MONTI company. While flannel is typically known for its tough, American impression, Italian-made versions have a different nuance. I based the Autumn/Winter collection around this fabric.
──Please describe "this season's mood" in one word.
"Contrast" in styling. I'm captivated by how a sense of modernity can be achieved simply through the balance between oversized and tight-fitting garments.
──What inspires the brand's (designer's) creativity?
Music, art exhibitions, sports, rakugo performances, theater – and encounters with people. I always aim to experience the "live feeling" of being in the moment. Observing and interpreting what I see and hear there is incredibly stimulating.
