Material Development and Artisanal Touches Create Richness
──What is the theme/concept for the Autumn/Winter 2015-16 collection?
This season's theme is "NEO OLD SCHOOL." We've deconstructed trad style, which has classical and great rules, with a new interpretation, incorporating VINTAGE, CRAFT, MINIMAL, and TECH.
While respecting the history of menswear, we focused on the relaxation and easy care required for modern life, investing time in material development with cutting-edge technology.
──What were the key points and details you wanted to highlight in this season's lookbook shoot?
We aimed to highlight the wearer through graphical lighting in casual, everyday moments. Similarly, [Milok]'s wardrobe elevates relaxed daily life into special occasions. We also wanted to express our focus on the texture and detail of the items.
──What are the differences in styling, silhouette, and color compared to last year's Autumn/Winter collection?
Compared to last season's collection, which had a stronger casual feel, this season's focus is on jacket styles. Adding a new jacket to your existing wardrobe will complete the deconstructed trad look.
This season features a subdued color palette, exclusively using [Milok]'s signature colors: navy charcoal, gray, black, and white.
The silhouettes are sleek, with a focus on achieving a relaxed balance. We've refined the necessary room for movement and airiness in collaboration with skilled tailors.
We've concentrated material development, vintage detailing, and artisanal touches like espresso. We hope you can sense that richness from the styling photos.
Effortless Contemporary Style for Everyone
──What is the key look (coordination) for this season?
The key look is a setup using our original functional nylon material. We've styled it with boots, square metal glasses, and a hat as accents.
While we previously released 100% wool jackets and sets, this season's pieces are designed for easier wear. They are wrinkle-resistant, can be rolled up compactly, and are convenient to pack in a bag.
The material is a custom order from Komatsu Seiren, one of the top three chemical fiber manufacturers, using [Milok]'s original finest nylon yarn. It features a brushed finish, water repellency, and is silent when handled.
──What are the key items and key colors?
Key items include the buttonless double jacket and the leather double rider's jacket. The collection is exclusively in [Milok]'s core colors: navy, charcoal, gray, black, and white. We've focused on gradients from gray to charcoal and navy to dark navy. Monotone outfits with subtle shade variations create a contemporary atmosphere for anyone.
──What "materials" did you focus on this season?
In addition to the functional nylon mentioned above, we used Super 100's Glen Check (navy) from Owari Ichinomiya, Super 100's Flannel from Owari Ichinomiya, and fine Merino wool. The natural character of the yarns is woven directly into the fabric.
──Please express this season's mood in one word.
Discomfort. [Milok], which proposes deconstructed trad, is centered on heritage x minimalism. This naturally leads to functional materials within a vintage feel, or the absence of the four buttons typically found on classical tailored jacket cuffs. We meticulously consider practicality and remove unnecessary details, which may create a sense of 'discomfort'.
──What inspires the brand's (designer's) creativity?
Nature and technology.
