A portion of sales will fund the purchase of a leather sewing machine!
The Mr. Poppy T-shirts released this time come in two designs, each available in two colors. Featuring H? Katsukawa's iconic character prominently, Eiichi Katsukawa recommends them, saying, "These T-shirts are fun to wear and are sure to bring a smile to those around you."
Mr. Katsukawa shared his thoughts: "One of our goals with this T-shirt release is to use a portion of the proceeds to purchase a leather sewing machine for H? Katsukawa's shoemaking. Leather sewing machines are becoming rare in Japan, with fewer production sites available, but we are determined to find and acquire one. We would be grateful if you could participate in H? Katsukawa's craftsmanship and the operation of the repair shop 'Shoe of Life' in Ikejiri-Ohashi by purchasing a T-shirt. We plan to continue this initiative with one or two projects per year."
T-shirts, like the shoes, are meticulously crafted in Japan.
The biggest focus for these T-shirts is the yarn; high-quality 40-count yarn was used. Mr. Katsukawa explained, "For this T-shirt, we used a premium 40-count yarn, which underwent numerous knitting tests and careful selection to create our original 40-count combed yarn (with fuzz removed). This was then processed into a double yarn (two strands twisted together) and knitted using the jersey stitch. The result is a high-quality jersey fabric with no diagonal distortion (fabric warping). This purely Japanese-made T-shirt is crafted from a soft, delicate, high-quality fabric with a lustrous finish."
The process began with pattern making at a long-established cut-and-sew manufacturer in Sumida Ward, Tokyo. The silhouette features set-in sleeves, and the collar is made from 30/count combed rib fabric, finished with two-needle stitching at the neckline. The sleeves and hem are sewn using the "tenchi" sewing machine, a testament to Japanese craftsmanship – truly a T-shirt packed with dedication.

Mr. Katsukawa stated, "Each detail has been meticulously sewn with care. The prints are applied using silk screen printing, with artisans hand-printing each one. A significant feature is its resistance to losing shape after washing, so please wear it often and enjoy Mr. Poppy." We encourage you to support Mr. Katsukawa's dedication to his craft.
