Timeless Yet Fresh: The Essence of BLACK & BLUE
TOKYO Men's Brands: BLACK & BLUE
BLACK & BLUE 2015-16 Autumn/Winter Collection
Thoughtfully Crafted: Familiar Yet New
At the heart of the brand BLACK & BLUE lies a desire to create the clothes the designer himself wants to wear. Masato Fukuhara draws on the essence of vintage clothing he has collected, combined with his theoretical knowledge and experience as a patternmaker, to propose designs and styles that fuse classical details with modern cutting.

A Rich Array of Grayscale Items
──What was the theme/concept for the 2015-16 Autumn/Winter collection?
We don't set a specific theme each season, as we reflect the zeitgeist by drawing inspiration from various sources. However, for this season, we focused on refining every element—design, materials, pattern, and sewing—to achieve a more meticulous craftsmanship than ever before.
For Autumn/Winter 2015, we propose a new take on basics, allowing for playful styling through silhouette. The grayscale items available this season have been further enhanced in quality.
──What are the differences from last year's Autumn/Winter collection in terms of styling, silhouette, and color?
We've shifted our approach, toning down the color palette and details to allow the texture of the materials and the cutting to be more apparent.
──What is the key look (coordination) for this season?
The look on the right in the photo above, where the jacket and coat are made from the same material, creates a sense of volume for the oversized coat.
Oversized, Loose-Fit Outerwear Arrives
──What are the key items and key colors?
The key items are oversized, loose-fit outerwear. The key colors are primarily black and gray, which we haven't used extensively before.
──What "materials" did you focus on this season?
We paid particular attention to texture. This includes checks blended with British wool, worsted-spun melton, and honeycomb-patterned thermal fabric recreating the weave of 40s military textiles.
──In a word, how would you describe "the mood of this season"?
Cutting that looks refined even when loose. A gradation from black to gray.
──What inspires the brand's (designer's) creativity?
Single-purpose clothing, items, and products, such as military and workwear.
