The 44th JOURNAL STANDARD | Surf Trunks Featuring Japanese Craftsmanship
JOURNAL STANDARD
A Shop Pursuing the Essence of Selection
New Classics Begin at JOURNAL STANDARD Omotesando
“JOURNAL STANDARD Omotesando,” with its concept of an “antenna shop exploring new standards,” selects not only established brands but also those poised for widespread recognition and enduring popularity from around the globe. This series, “New Directions at JOURNAL STANDARD,” delivered weekly from the unique OPENERS perspective, unveils the store’s allure.
This installment introduces “NALUTO TRUNKS.” Last year, we featured this brand in the same season. Through closer collaboration with JOURNAL STANDARD, the brand has further evolved its products to be more functional and stylish.

Surf Trunks Crafted with Japanese Artisanship
NALUTO TRUNKS
Yamaguchi Sewing, located in Naruto City, Tokushima Prefecture, once manufactured school swimsuits. Their second-generation president, Teruyoshi Yamaguchi, a surfer himself, has poured his exceptional skills into creating “Naruto Trunks.”
While the design is authentic and pairs well with classic surfboards, the lining features a polyester as smooth as silk, and the finishing uses a soft fabric called woolly nylon. Furthermore, meticulous attention has been paid to comfort, such as the flat piping treatment on the fabric seams.
This dedication quickly garnered strong support from surfers and has now permeated street style, evolving into a fashion item. At JOURNAL STANDARD Omotesando, they are now one of the standout brands of the summer.
This season, JOURNAL STANDARD is again offering exclusive collaboration items. For the new “Jelly” model, which incorporates the form of running shorts, they have been ordered with stretchable fabric. For the classic “Walk Shorts” model, they have created a special order with same-colored, overdyed fabric on the sides and back, finished to develop a richer character with wear.
These surf trunks are suitable for use by the sea as well as for everyday town wear. We encourage you to experience the reasons behind their popularity firsthand.
