2011-12 Winter Warm Biz Feature: Shunsuke Suzuki of THE SOVEREIGN HOUSE
“Softening the Rigid Style of Marunouchi”
Fifteen years have passed since the Namiki-dori era. THE SOVEREIGN HOUSE has consistently proposed the ideal form of dress clothing as envisioned by United Arrows. Shunsuke Suzuki, 37, who joined United Arrows in 1998, worked at the Namiki-dori store for four years, and returned as store manager this spring after a seven-year absence, embodies the Warm Biz style. What is his “soft and rounded” coordination, incorporating his personal items?

Even in Marunouchi, This Much Variation is Welcome—A Style in Practice
When asked about his feelings on returning to THE SOVEREIGN HOUSE after seven years, Mr. Suzuki commented, “While the world of men’s dress sees slight changes in form and material each season, the foundation remains in the timeless classics. Even after being away for a while, I find that the truly good pieces remain as appealing and cool as ever, regardless of the years.” He added, “The true pleasure of men’s dress lies in creating freshness amidst subtle changes, so I propose conservative styles with a touch of trend.”
With stores located in business districts like Marunouchi and Ginza, where suits are frequently worn, Mr. Suzuki observes, “Individual jackets and trousers have been selling exceptionally well. There was a time when experienced suit-wearers felt hesitant about how to coordinate separates. However, as the popularity of ‘jacket and pants’ styling has grown, I’ve seen a real expansion in styling possibilities. More men are coming in knowing their personal style and looking for what to wear next.”
However, he notes that “even with jacket and pants combinations, gray and navy remain the basics, and many styles are still quite formal.” At THE SOVEREIGN HOUSE, for their Warm Biz proposals, Mr. Suzuki aims to “support customers in broadening their styling options, going beyond simply pairing a cardigan with a jacket.”
For example, he suggests pairing a jacket with a high-gauge knit and clean-finished corduroy trousers. “To help break away from the rigid Marunouchi style, color is key. By choosing knitwear in warm tones like reddish-brown or purple, you can create a visually warmer impression. Furthermore, pairing with outerwear made from materials with a longer pile will lend a softer, more rounded feel to the overall look.”
In line with jackets and suits becoming lighter, shorter, and more sporty, coats, essential for the coming season, are also becoming shorter in length and predominantly single-layered, lightweight, and comfortable types. Moreover, he recommends, “Instead of the usual solid colors or subtle patterns, incorporating colors and patterns consciously will complete a stylish look for this year.”
This season, THE SOVEREIGN HOUSE boasts a particularly strong selection of knits. From their original Sovereign line to brands like Cruciani, Gray, and Roberto Collina, they offer a wide range from high-gauge to chunky low-gauge options.
“THE SOVEREIGN HOUSE is where the refined and high-quality selection of United Arrows is further concentrated. Whether you're looking for individual pieces or building your own style, you'll undoubtedly find something you love, so please come and explore,” he encourages.
