“Total Wellness Experience at a Hotel” PART-1
Supporting the high-quality training that photographer Roland Kirishima is undertaking in his hometown of Tokyo is the performance-enhancing functional wear, “adidas-premiumsports.” Kirishima, dressed in the latest coordinated outfits for his training, experienced the total wellness plan conceived by Conrad Tokyo and adidas.

“Body Maintenance” to Enjoy the Present
Conrad Tokyo, located in Shiodome, Tokyo, is close to Kirishima’s studio and is a hotel he can easily incorporate into his daily routine. “Although I live in the city, I often use hotels for special occasions like anniversaries with my wife. I like hotel services, so I have a few favorite hotels in Tokyo,” he says.
Kirishima, born in 1968, has recently come to strongly feel that “the body and mind are one.” “Before I got injured, I noticed that when I was exercising regularly, my body was sharp and my mind was clear. I had been refraining from exercise due to rehabilitation, but from now on, rather than just wanting to be healthy, I’d prefer to engage in exercise as maintenance to enjoy the present. When you’re young, training means building abs or aiming for a boxer’s physique, but for maintenance in your 40s, I think it’s better to focus on training inner muscles rather than outer ones, and to do it within the scope of maintaining a ‘normal life’ with my family,” he explains.
<STAY>
The running plan “Conrad Stay, Run & Eat supported by adidas” that he experienced this time is an innovative stay-plan concept. It involves a one-night stay at Conrad Tokyo and experiencing total wellness centered on running, supervised by James Shuichi Nakano, an adidas advisory and charismatic personal trainer with many famous athletes as clients. This plan is also appealing for busy business people as a “recovery plan beyond just sleep.”
Kirishima remarks, “They say the excesses of your 20s catch up in your 30s, and the neglect of your 30s shows in your 40s. In my late 20s and 30s, work was so busy that I found it difficult to prioritize maintaining my body. With a hotel stay plan like this, even though it’s close to my workplace, I feel a sense of freedom. It would be wonderful if one could use it a few times a year as a ‘reward for oneself.’ It might also be a good idea to stay the week before the Tokyo Marathon for motivation, or to celebrate completing it.”
<RUN>
The room is equipped with maps of six varied running courses starting from Conrad Tokyo, proposed by Nakano, and an original “RUN AND CARE” DVD, all designed to support the enjoyment of running. A major appeal of this plan is the ability to learn the wellness principles advocated by Nakano – “Exercise (Running),” “Nutrition (Diet),” and “Rest (Recovery)” – in accordance with one’s own stay plan.
“Shiodome, with its new town feel, is pleasant to run in. The scenery is constantly changing, and the roads are easy to run on. When I come to Tokyo on business, or even when I live in Tokyo and want a change of pace, a package plan like this that allows for total body care in a different world is very welcome,” says Kirishima.
<FITNESS>
From the perspective of “Rest (Recovery),” guests can choose from recovery plans that top athletes actually use for fatigue recovery and relaxation. Options include “Aquatic Relaxation” in the pool, a “Sports Oil Massage” at the spa, or “Stretch Pole & Personal Stretch” in the fitness area.
Kirishima, who experienced the Stretch Pole & Personal Stretch, commented, “It’s great to have an instructor for fitness. Being able to discuss your condition based on how you feel that day and get professional advice is very important.”
Kirishima laughs, “After having children and starting to go to the park, I finally feel like I’ve returned to being human, with a rhythm to my life.” “This plan is excellent not only for the experience itself but also for the learning that can be applied to everyday life. I feel like I gained more than just what I experienced during my stay.”
Conrad Tokyo’s running plan, “Conrad Stay, Run & Eat supported by adidas,” is a special plan available until Thursday, March 31, 2010. In the next installment, PART-2, we will introduce the details of the plan.
