Taishi Nobukuni: Issue 7 – What is BUDDHA PUNK ESSAY?

BUDDHA PUNK ESSAY: Part 7

Happy New Year.
I'm starting a new series with a different theme from the previous installments.

BUDDHA PUNK ESSAY is an essay version of my blog, BUDDHA PUNIKDIARY (http://botanika-blog.jugem.jp/), but I intend to write more about fashion and various other topics.

Like Katharine Hamnett and Michael Topia, I am a designer who is also a Buddhist, and this was reflected in my previous series. My awareness of organic cotton also stems from a similar philosophy to Katharine's. I wanted these personal beliefs to be felt through the products themselves, so I decided to set them aside for a while and speak more plainly about fashion.

However, my characteristic restlessness doesn't mean I've abandoned Buddhism. Through my encounters with a master in a genuine spiritual lineage, I've learned a spirit of freedom that transcends the sacred and the secular. I want to convey that freedom through fashion, and share it here as well. That's my aspiration.
