Making a Suit with POKIT

This photo is from November 2006, taken in London. I had a suit made at 'POKIT.' It's what they call made-to-measure, or bespoke couture.

I met the two designers and owners in 2001 during a feature for the magazine 'Sotokoto.' The shop hadn't opened yet back then, but on this day, I happened to glance in and thought, 'What an interesting shop,' and there they were.

Through the shop window, we all exclaimed, 'Oh!' at each other. It was like a montage of memories flashed through my mind – how I'd interviewed them when they were unknown, and how the sweet shop we used as a location back then was so cool.
And being a simple person, on the spur of the moment, I impulsively decided to order their signature bespoke suit right then and there...

I've had suits made overseas many times, in Savile Row, Neapolitan couture, and so on, but this was the first time I experienced it with such a casual feeling. It felt novel, like ordering bespoke at a jeans shop.

After this, I had a fitting when I visited London again in December, and it was completed in February of this year. It was sent to Tokyo. However, the jacket ended up being a bit too loose, so when I went to London again in May, I left it with them for alterations.

It was finally completed and sent to me in July. I had planned to wear it this summer, but it looks like its proper debut will be next spring. In other words, it's still waiting in my closet, having not yet made its first appearance. The trousers have an extremely high waist, comparable to Thom Browne's. But lately, I've been experimenting with high waists, so perhaps that's fine too... I'm looking forward to next spring.
