From the DVD "Vivienne Westwood 1970s-1990" (Victor Entertainment, Inc.)

A special program on Vivienne Westwood, broadcast in 1990 as part of the British art show "THE SOUTH BANK SHOW," is being released on DVD for the first time.

This documentary program features interviews with Vivienne Westwood from the era, as well as interviews with Malcolm McLaren, Jasper Conran, Peter York (journalist), and Valerie Mendes (curator at the Victoria and Albert Museum), along with rare fashion show footage and studio shoots. "MALCOLM MCLAREN profile 1984," also broadcast on the same program, will be released simultaneously.

To commemorate the release of this DVD, "Vivienne Westwood 1970s-1990," we will be holding a screening of the work followed by a talk session with writer Hiroshi Enaitsu.

Hiroshi Enaitsu
Writer/Concept/Direction/DJ. Began DJing while a student at Rikkyo University's Faculty of Arts. In the 1990s, participated in music units such as Routine and De Niro's, followed by a "great fall (in the vein of Evil Under the Sun)." Currently collaborates with photographers like Kieron Baird and Ian Simmons, and is advancing a three-person project, onestoneinsidetheshoe, with contemporary artist Jörg Geismar and Philippe Codognès, a professor at Paris Diderot University and new media researcher. Also working as an adjunct curator for KIOSK HELLO Tokyo and as a part-time lecturer.

About Vivienne Westwood (Program Director Gillion Greenwood)

Vivienne Westwood is one of Britain's most innovative and controversial fashion designers.
Regarded in the fashion industry as an eccentric yet brilliant figure, her often shocking designs are constantly imitated by other designers.
The imitated designs are reworked, assimilated into the mainstream, and adopted by men and women on the street.

She began her career as Malcolm McLaren's partner, and together they created the punk era, which fused music and "street" fashion.
"Malcolm's theme was 'sexual rebellion,'" she says. "We made and sold leather, bondage, and rubber clothing based on that theme. Malcolm's slogan was 'To the office in a rubber suit.'"

McLaren recalls, "She indulged my whims and fantasies, fundamentally believing in me. When she sympathized with my ideas, she would appear on a Saturday night dressed in a giant condom. A transparent latex suit. She's a woman who goes all the way when she commits to something."

This documentary focuses on Westwood's career, exploring how she draws inspiration from history, fetishism, and street culture.

"There are constraints in 20th-century fashion. You can't build clothes like stacking bricks, so fashion has its own conventions due to these limitations. There are rules to follow." She adds, "For me, the starting point is always intellectual curiosity."

Westwood criticizes the current era, stating, "I am living in a more isolated time than the pagan era of ancient Greece. The barbarity of the people in this country is symbolized by their lack of interest in art. Money should not be the goal; it is a means to obtain what is necessary. If there is any other meaningful use for it, it is the protection of art."

Unconventional, unique, extraordinary, heretic, mad – whatever adjectives you use to describe Westwood, there is no doubt that she is one of a kind.

"She's a genius," says designer Jasper Conran, adding, "Of course, in this country, we don't readily acknowledge that (a genius from our own country)."

Peter York, a leading figure in trends, interjects, "If she had stayed quietly at her desk, she wouldn't have met me."
This documentary also features Michael Clark, the star of punk ballet, who also models Westwood's work.
