UNITED ARROWS green label relaxing has completed its 2012 Spring/Summer campaign featuring actress Yuriko Yoshitaka, themed “Loveable Labels.” The accompanying website, “Loveable Spots,” which introduces love power spots across Japan, has also been revamped and enhanced. Today, we feature Ami Nishino, a staff member at the Shinjuku Mitsukoshi Alcott store, where a “SPECIAL THANKS SALE” is currently underway.

What Ami Finds Joyful About Menswear
The Shinjuku Mitsukoshi Alcott store will close its doors on the 31st of this month (Saturday). To express gratitude for the years of patronage, the store is currently holding a sale offering 30% to 70% off, including new spring 2012 items.
Ami Nishino is in her fifth year with UNITED ARROWS, having previously worked at the Lumine Shinjuku store before transferring to Shinjuku Mitsukoshi Alcott. “Women typically handle womenswear, but I was interested in menswear because I could recommend items from a female perspective, so I requested to work in the men’s department. I was a bit anxious at first, but I’ve come to understand the enjoyment of menswear, where I can thoroughly explain products and help customers make informed purchases,” she says.
“While women often buy items based on an immediate reaction like ‘It’s cute!’, the meticulous attention men pay to details like size, down to the centimeter or millimeter, is a valuable learning experience for me. The Shinjuku Mitsukoshi Alcott store is a complex featuring womenswear, kids’, and menswear, but we also have store-exclusive items like men’s suits, making it a strong destination for men’s formal wear. We see many male customers who appreciate a relaxed shopping experience.”
Nishino’s key principle in customer service is a smile. “As a woman working in the men’s section, I value offering service from a female perspective. I recommend colors or patterns that men might not choose themselves, and suggest outfits that enhance their appeal, helping them discover a new sense of self alongside the pleasure of shopping.”
When asked about stylish celebrities she looks to for men’s fashion inspiration, Nishino immediately replies, “Our company president, Shigematsu!” While she wears casual attire in her daily life, she adds, “I like suits because they make me feel more poised and sharp. I add a touch of softness with blouses, ensuring my coordination retains a feminine touch,” she says with a memorable smile.
