“I can suggest how to wear something because I can’t wear it myself.”

Yukari Suzuki, Staff at UNITED ARROWS Ginza Store

Until March 31st (Saturday), UNITED ARROWS is holding a members’ campaign for its 5th anniversary House Card. The star of the Ginza store, a popular select shop, is Yukari Suzuki, who is in her ninth year with the company. Her subtly stylish pocket square, tucked into a UNITED ARROWS original blazer, speaks volumes.

It’s a joy to see couples choosing items they both love together.

The men’s floor at UNITED ARROWS Ginza Store is located on the basement level. Directly across the aisle is the women’s shoe brand “Odette e Odile,” creating a vibrant atmosphere that sets the Ginza store apart from other men’s shops.

Suzuki has been dedicated to menswear since joining the company, working at the Shibuya, Ikebukuro, and Yurakucho stores before arriving at the Ginza store three years ago. “I’ve experienced various stores, but the male customers at the Ginza store are very knowledgeable about clothing, and they add their own flair, making them incredibly stylish.”

Suzuki’s approach to customer service involves “taking a man’s preferred basic style and adding a touch of color, incorporating trendy items, or introducing playful elements with scarves, pocket squares, or ties to alter the overall look. While the fundamental items like jackets, shirts, and pants remain consistent in menswear, it’s fascinating how color, pattern, and that extra touch can create a fresh impression. I always keep these variations in mind when assisting customers,” she explains, actively suggesting accessories, where women often excel.

She laughs when describing the challenge of menswear: “While women’s fashion often prioritizes design and ambiance, men’s clothing, whether formal or casual, has a rich history that can be challenging to fully grasp.” She adds, “However, drawing on my experience at various stores, I find it incredibly rewarding to suggest ‘how to wear it’ for menswear, especially since I can’t wear it myself. Knowing that customers appreciate and regularly wear the outfits I’ve recommended gives me a great sense of fulfillment in my work.”

As the UNITED ARROWS Ginza Store is a combined men’s and women’s shop, many couples and partners visit. “They enjoy shopping together, and I understand a man’s desire for a specific shade of grey, even if he already owns several grey pants, just as I understand a woman’s perspective. I leverage this understanding in my customer service. It’s a joy to see couples choosing items they both love together.”

When asked about celebrities, Suzuki mentions, “I admire Osamu Mukai’s casual styling, which is neat and exudes a clean, fresh image.” She believes that adding or changing just one element can elevate a man’s mood and energy. “I hope men can enjoy fashion from that perspective too.”
