The "Bamboo Dragonfly" That Never Falls
A New Mobile That Creates a Unique Sense of Levitation
MicroWorks, the design studio/label led by Shunsuke Umiyama, is known for distilling everyday occurrences and subtle oddities into products that integrate seamlessly into life, filtered through their unique sense of humor. Their latest creation, arriving after about a year, centers on the theme of the "bamboo dragonfly." The result is a nostalgic mobile that harnesses the toy's inherent characteristics.

A Unique Sense of Levitation Born from Sensing and Visualizing the Air
"bamboo copTer" is a mobile composed of four bamboo dragonflies. Stemming from Umiyama's belief that "the true protagonists of a mobile are not just the suspended objects or their calculated balance, but the air that animates them and the wind that blows through it," he embarked on creating a mobile that would accentuate and visualize the wind.
The bamboo dragonflies used are handcrafted by artisans. Each piece varies in size and shape, and the propellers are made from lightweight wood instead of bamboo, achieving significant weight reduction. This allows them to react to even the slightest breeze, and even with the same wind, their rotation and response vary considerably. Their unpredictable movement, drifting up, down, front, back, and sideways, allows you to enjoy a bamboo dragonfly that never seems to fall.
Pay attention also to the beautiful shadows cast by "bamboo copTer." Like their real-life counterparts, they move in mysterious ways, and their ethereal presence is sure to captivate you. You can see "bamboo copTer" drifting through space on the MicroWorks website. We highly recommend taking a look.
