A Gift of Masks: When You Buy One, Another Reaches Someone You Care About
KCP, a company specializing in product design for fabric goods, has partnered with BOVIS, a sewing manufacturer, to produce 100% cotton masks. With the purchase of one mask, you can send an identical mask, free of charge, to an address of your choice as a "Gift Mask."

A Service from Fukuyama, Hiroshima, Delivers Masks to Those in Need
Fukuyama, Hiroshima-based design company KCP, in collaboration with BOVIS, a sewing company also located in Fukuyama, launched their "Gift Mask" service on the online shop BASE (https://onegift.base.shop/) on April 10, 2020.
The "Gift Mask" service allows customers to "send an identical mask to someone you care about when you purchase one." KCP covers the cost of the gift mask, shipping, and handling, delivering it to the address specified by the purchaser. If no specific address is provided, or if the purchaser wishes to hand-deliver the mask, it can be included with the purchaser's own order. Alternatively, customers can opt to donate a gift mask to residents of Fukuyama City who are in need.
While up to three items can be purchased per order, only one gift mask is included.
These masks feature a design similar to non-woven masks. The inner fabric is pleated to fit the nose, ensuring a comfortable, non-restrictive fit. A pocket is also integrated into the mask, allowing for the insertion of additional gauze or filters from the side.
The masks are available in two sizes: one for adults, and a smaller size for children or those with smaller faces. The material is a 100% cotton fabric, denser than gauze, offering a balance of structure and breathability, making it ideal for masks.
KCP handles the mask design and sales management, while BOVIS oversees manufacturing. With most of the production process taking place within Fukuyama City and its vicinity, the companies can efficiently manage production and delivery. Even if stock runs out, a system is in place for daily mask deliveries, ensuring that the needs of prospective buyers can be met.
From April 13 to April 19, 2020, was a trial period for quality stabilization. Starting April 20, the daily inventory count will be updated on the online shop. For more details on the background of this initiative, please refer to designer Yosuke Kataoka's note (
