Tableware for Children, Blooming Like a Bud

NUPPU, a tableware brand whose name means “bud” in Finnish. Following the first release, “NUPPU BABY,” launched in 2017, what are the thoughts behind the newly added “NUPPU JUNIOR”?

NUPPU is a tableware brand with “Sustainable” as its theme. The designs are by Maija Puoskari, who is based in Helsinki, Finland, and the ceramics are made in Hasami, Nagasaki Prefecture.

The first release, “NUPPU BABY,” launched in 2017, was well-received as a gift, such as for baby showers, due to its high design quality and gentle texture. The newly added “NUPPU JUNIOR” is for children aged 3 and up, and like the previous series, it is made with the sentiment of “cherishing opportunities for children to connect with the world through food.”

Designer Maija draws inspiration from nature—vegetables, plants, stones, the sky, and snow—expressing them with a uniquely Finnish color palette. What stands out as a long-life design that accompanies a child's growth is its timeless design that can be used even as they grow, and the fact that ceramics damaged within the warranty period can be replaced free of charge (one ceramic piece).

In a world of disposables, we want children to know the joy of using things with care. Just as a bud eventually blooms, we want to be a presence that watches over and accompanies their growth. These are the sentiments imbued in “NUPPU JUNIOR.”

The lineup includes versatile Hasami-ware plate, bowl, and mug sets, as well as stainless steel cutlery sets and Imabari-made towel sets. Ahead of the general release, a先行発売 (pre-sale) is scheduled to begin on Thursday, June 10th, at Kodomo Beams (Tokyo, Daikanyama).
