New Washi Paper Products Launch in Japan

Introducing "kami-mon," a new brand established by a long-standing Kyoto company specializing in the manufacture and processing of washi paper. For this collection, they have appointed Shin Azumi, an internationally active designer based in London, as Creative Director. The brand poses the question, "What are new washi paper products that can be embraced in contemporary life and loved by users worldwide?" and presents original designs and products based on the answer. The new collection, first unveiled at "Maison & Object" in Paris, is now finally available in Japan.

Washi Paper Products from Kyoto, Reimagined

The items launching in Japan this time include six pieces: objects that express still life motifs using washi paper, a mobile that visualizes air currents, frames for displaying cards and photos, a vessel for fruit, a collapsible ornament, and a box that can be used as both an object and storage. We draw attention to these washi paper products from Kyoto, reimagined for contemporary living.

Still Life

"Still Life" expresses motifs from still life paintings, such as wine bottles and fruit, using crumpled washi paper. When inflated by blowing into the small, folded paper balloon shape, it forms the silhouette of a bottle or fruit. Additionally, the base of each bottle contains a hidden compartment within its packaging box, allowing it to be used as a small secret drawer.
