Takahiro Nagino
A Calendar for Next Year That Feels Like It's Always Been There
"Paper Calendar 2013"
With 2012 drawing to a close, the "Paper Calendar 2013" by illustrator Takahiro Nagino, an annual tradition, has been released. Available at NADiff, ON SUNDAYS, and the BEAMS online shop, among others.
Text by Morito IWANAGA (OPENERS)
Illustrations Drawn with the Same "Line" Since 1983
A calendar that feels as if it has always been there.
The calendar by Takahiro Nagino, which arrives at this time each year, marks its 31st anniversary. The motifs, drawn with simple, light lines, have been a pleasure unchanged since 1983.
The cover features a minimalist illustration using a few lines. Is it a path leading into a forest, or perhaps a house floating among the trees? When asked, the artist simply says, "Please imagine freely."

January features a table, April the Earth, July binoculars – the motifs change monthly, but Nagino explains that they carry no fixed meaning. He hopes users will enjoy imagining their own interpretations.
This year's calendar comes with a bonus "ZINE." This booklet features a color-inverted design of the calendar, giving it a more pop feel.
This calendar is recommended for those who wish to start 2013 with a sense of calm. It also makes a delightful gift.
